Problem-What impact will there be on a rolling ball with an object in its path?
Hypothesis- I think that the densest object will slow down or stop the ball, and the ball with no object will continue the furthest
Materials-
Rolling surface
A Ball
Small Block of wood
A lego
Large block of wood
Roll of tape
Procedure-
Gather all materials listed above
Mark a line with type of where you are going to start (kind of like a starting line)
For the first roll do NOT give the ball a push
Record results in an Excel or just a word document how far the ball traveled
On the second roll give the ball a little force with small block of wood in its path, and give it a little push
Once again record results on whatever program you have chosen
Next you’re going to put a lego in the path of the ball
Then once again record results
For your last test your going to put the large block of wood in front of the ball and give it a little push.
Finally your going to record your final answers.
Then be helpful and clean up your mess.
Variables-
CV- Starting line, Rolling surface, amount of force used on the push you give the ball, Ruler used to measure distance, and the ball being used in each test.
IV-Object in path of moving ball
Dv-Distance ball goes
Control-No object in path of ball, Amount of push given
External Variables-
Surface, may be bumpy or uneven, and may effect where ball rolls. I will use the exact same surface, and force used on the push given on each test, so then if there is was no object in the way it would have stopped at the exact same point each time.
